Deaf Parenting Practitioners Passed with flying colours….
Following the success of our specialist parenting support programmes for Deaf parents, funded by Office for Disability Issues – Strengthening DUPLO’ Programme Facilitation Fund, Deaf Parenting UK (DPUK) is delighted to announce 10 candidates who have undertaken training to become qualified Deaf Parenting Practitioners.
Deaf Parenting UK (DPUK) is an awards winning charity that provides specialised support for Deaf Parents, focusing on helping Deaf parents/parents to be to support their children to achieve positive outcomes across all areas of their lives. At DPUK, we work primarily with Deaf parents whose first language is British Sign Language (BSL) and who face significant barriers around community inclusion and in developing parenting skills and capacity.
Our new team of qualified Parenting Trainers are Deaf Professionals who have significant experience working with Deaf Adults, children and families, will be able to deliver more support to Deaf Parents and their families across the UK.
Delivery of Deaf awareness focused support will address the concerns around Deaf parenting, the provision of the support will give Deaf families more incentive to engage and make the required progress.
Sabina Iqbal, Chair/ Founder of Deaf Parenting UK is delighted with the positive outcome: “It has taken us a long time to achieve our vision of training more Deaf people (of which many are Deaf parents) to become Parenting Practitioners. This provides them with opportunity to work for us and to deliver parenting support in their local areas across UK, to meet the demand for such provisions.”
