DEAFvibe – SEE ME HEAR ME EXHIBITION (DEAF DAY)
When: FRIDAY 9TH MAY 2014 10am – 4pm
Where: Waddington Suite & Stanley Matthews Lounge, Britannia Stadium, Stoke City Football Club, Stoke-on-Trent
Award winning charity DEAFvibe is a vibrant organisation seeking to empower Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deafblind community of Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.
The Deaf-led Charity, now in its fifth year and run by volunteers, will hold its third annual See Me, Hear Me Exhibition. Entry to the exhibition is free to members of the public and professionals who wish to attend.
Last year’s event attracted 50 exhibitors from around the country and almost 500 visitors including deaf, hard of hearing and deaf blind people, their carers and families and professionals working in the field of deafness.
The exhibition, informally known as the Deaf Day, promotes the wealth of services available to deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind people in Staffordshire, from suppliers of assistive listening devices and national deaf organisations to local health and emergency services that are keen to make their services more accessible. In addition to the information stalls, there will be two BSL interpreted tours of Britannia Stadium, stalls selling crafts, cakes and holistic treatments and fundraising activities including a raffle with fantastic prizes (with some Stoke City FC memorabilia included).
The event is fully accessible, with all communication needs catered for, such as British Sign Language and Deafblind interpreters, Electronic Notetaker and a Lipspeaker, all of which will be available on the day.
DEAFvibe chair, Julie Hart says “The ‘See Me, Hear Me’ event is a great opportunity for all to find out about deafness, the impact it can have on your life and to get advice and information on how to continue to live an independent life after being diagnosed as deaf”.
